This year’s Cares For Kids Radiothon, hosted by 107.5 Frank FM and 99.9 The Wolf, celebrated it’s 20th year and marked the first time the event was held over two days instead of three. Naturally, we all couldn’t help but wonder if a two-day Radiothon would be as effective and impactful. However, thanks to the truly gifted on-air team in Maine, the 20th annual radiothon was a resounding success, with $403,773 raised!
Every dollar raised will help fund care, research and supplies at Maine Health Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. This brings the grand total of Radiothon fundraising since the very first event in 2006 to just shy of $5 million.
Leif Erickson, Director of Programming for WFNK, said, “It has been a privilege to watch this event grow and get better every year, and it’s all thanks to our incredible on-air and programming staff, not just for the on-air work, but the weeks of advance work recording interviews, editing audio, participating in training, and keeping our socials buzzing. Thanks to our best-in-the-business sales staff for bringing in legacy and new clients to be a part of something special. And thanks to our Engineering staff for their assistance in getting the hospital staff everything they needed for their phone bank and other IT needs.”
Local radio must reflect what’s going on in the local community, and this event continues to demonstrate the true power of local radio, and deepen the bond with our listeners.
